Why allergies flare up in Pattaya

Plenty of visitors first experience allergy symptoms in Thailand. Pattaya’s tropical climate keeps plants flowering all year, so pollen never takes a season off, and the humidity lets dust mites and mould thrive. Add unfamiliar foods, new insects and strong sun, and it is common to develop sneezing, itchy eyes or an unexplained rash within days of arriving.

Food reactions deserve particular care here. Thai dishes often contain peanuts, shellfish, fish sauce and tropical fruits, and menus do not always list every ingredient. What happens when you walk in

For stronger reactions the doctor can give injected medicines and keep you at the clinic for observation. Most mild allergic reactions settle within hours to a few days once the trigger is removed and treatment begins.

When an allergic reaction is an emergency

A small number of allergic reactions are life-threatening. Go straight to a hospital emergency department — or call Thailand’s 1669 emergency line — if you have difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, dizziness or collapse, or rapidly spreading hives together with vomiting. These are signs of anaphylaxis and need emergency treatment without delay. If you carry an adrenaline auto-injector, use it as directed and still seek emergency care afterwards.
